Educational Goals and Core Competencies

The General Education Department adheres to the school motto of "Universal Love" and develops holistic education based on the core competencies of "Caring," "Innovation," "Service," and "Professionalism" of our school. The educational goals and core competencies of general education are formulated accordingly. The corresponding diagram is as follows:

Development Highlights

In response to the increasingly severe global trend of population aging, our school focuses on the development pillars of "Health Promotion," "Long-term Care," "Friendly Campus," and "Sustainable Operation." On one hand, leveraging our nursing expertise, we actively promote the concept of a "Health-Promoting School." On the other hand, we advocate for "Service-Learning" to train students in interpersonal communication, altruism, and caring for life. Regarding campus environment, we prioritize "Natural Ecology," "Energy Conservation," and "Respect for Life" to construct a "Green Building" campus. In terms of resources, we adopt a "Cross-School Alliance, Cross-Disciplinary" approach, combining resources from the southern region's educational and social sectors to provide a space and opportunities for diverse learning for both teachers and students.

Aligned with the aforementioned development pillars and in accordance with the Ministry of Education's educational policies, we aim to cultivate socially responsible citizens, global citizens, and socially competent professionals. Considering teachers' expertise and students' learning interests, we offer courses in four major domains: "Language and Arts," "Humanities and Social Sciences," "Natural Sciences," and "Health and Physical Education." Through the design and implementation of general education courses, we aim to cultivate students with a broad perspective, social empathy, and critical thinking skills, seeking harmony between individuals, society, and nature.

To implement the above principles and goals, we actively develop the following distinctive features:

1.Integration of contemporary major issues into the curriculum. When unable to offer specialized courses due to program constraints and credit limits, contemporary major issues such as gender equality, environmental protection, and intellectual property rights are integrated into general compulsory courses.

2.Establishment of a self-learning center for foreign languages and a Chinese learning website. To supplement insufficient class hours for basic language courses, we establish a self-learning center for foreign languages through the Quality Enhancement Plan, with dedicated English teachers providing guidance for English learning. Additionally, we develop a Chinese learning website on the general education webpage to provide students with self-learning resources to enhance their language skills.

3.Effective utilization of regional resources and cross-school cooperation for general education. Located in the urban area of Kaohsiung City with nearby colleges and metropolitan exhibition halls, besides collaborating with community resources for cultural events, we actively involve students in arts and cultural performances in the city, enhancing their artistic literacy.

4.Promotion of service-learning integrated into both general and specialized courses, bridging theory and practice from classrooms to community service, enabling students to learn through action and reflect on their experiences.

5.Collaboration with internal administrative units to actively promote environmental education. Apart from establishing a campus botanical learning network to connect teachers and students with the campus environment, the General Affairs Office also secures various projects to construct a green building campus, creating a learning environment that respects natural ecology and life.

6.With health promotion as the main theme, we increase physical education credits, offer diverse physical education courses, and promote healthy living comprehensively to improve the physical and mental health of both teachers and students. Additionally, we actively promote swimming instruction in line with the Ministry of Education's Ocean Culture Initiative to develop our school's sports characteristics.

In summary, our general education curriculum planning follows the principles of fundamentality, integration, and development, combining formal and informal courses to create potential teaching situations. By integrating courses from humanities and natural sciences, we aim to inspire learning motivation and interests, nurturing professionals with both expertise and humanistic care to adapt to the diversified and globalized society of the future, contributing to society to the best of our abilities.
